Improving Cardio-Vascular Endurance

Lisa contacted HH Fitness to help restore a regular exercise programme into her busy work/life schedule.  She was interested in running, but felt her cardio-vascular fitness was too poor for running.

Helen tested Lisa’s fitness using the Chester Step Test method to determine her VO2 Max (the volume of oxygen taken up and used by the body).  At the first test, Lisa scored an “Average” mark.

Over the following weeks, a running and walking programme was carried out, which Lisa excelled at and in a matter of 8 weeks, she went from running intervals of 1 minute to running for 30 minutes.  At the same time Helen tested Lisa’s fitness a second time and she scored an impressive “Excellent”.

Since then, Lisa’s running has formed a major part of her weekly training and she has taken part in several 5k races and a 10k race, around her local area at Ashton Court, Bristol.
