What a difference 30 minute training sessions make !

For some people, 1 hr training sessions do not suit their work/life balance and when Michelle contacted HH Fitness this was exactly the case.  So in line with what did suit Michelle, HH Fitness worked out a package to provide 2 x 30 minute training sessions each week, early in the morning, before work.

Michelle contacted HH Fitness before travelling to Bristol from Australia where she would be working for a few weeks.  She had trained with Helen before and decided to really focus on giving her fitness a boost while she was away from home.  In Australia, Michelle was swimming and cycling, with a little running, which she wanted Helen’s help with to improve enough to enter Sydney’s City to Surf race in August.  A 14k run from the centre of Sydney to Bondi Beach.

Over a period of 7 weeks, Helen planned a series of challenging resistance exercises to strengthen Michelle’s legs, core and upper body, along with some running sets concentrating on hills and speed.  Helen would often train alongside Michelle to help provide pace and more motivation.  Also, Michelle enjoyed training with someone, rather than Helen just standing there and shouting instructions.

One of Michelle’s favourite session plans was called “1,000 reps” in which Helen took 10 exercises with the aim for Michelle to complete 100 reps of each.  They did this session 3 times over the 7 weeks she was in Bristol.   The improvements in Michelle’s strength and fitness are evident in the below comparison of 4 of the exercises carried out in the first and last of those training sessions:

16 May

14 June

Squats

80

100

Star jumps

80

100

Oblique Twists

30

100

Squat Thrusts

30

60

During those weeks, Michelle experienced a significant improvement in her fitness, including losing several pounds in weight.  This had undoubtedly put her in a strong position to complete the City to Surf race.

Michelle is now back home and has decided that personal trainers are the way forward, so is currently searching for a trainer there.   She told HH Fitness: “I’m just thrilled to be able to run 5km’s a day and feel good doing it”.

Well done Michelle, keep up the good work !
